Will I need to change my utility energy rate to capture savings on the Bidirectional Energy app?

Not necessarily. Many households can participate and still generate savings or earnings on their existing rate.

However, some rate plans—specifically, time-varying rates, also known as time-of-use (TOU) rates or dynamic rates—can unlock additional savings because they reward using energy when prices are low and exporting when prices are high. If a rate change would benefit you, we’ll let you know and help you understand your options.

In California:

• Our program requires that you be on a time varying rate.
• If you’re part of a CCA, rate eligibility varies by provider, but we’ll help ensure you’re on the rate that works best for your home and situation.
