If my home already has a home backup battery like the Tesla Powerwall installed, is there a reason to install a Power Recovery Unit (PRU)?
It depends.
If your existing battery offers home backup when the grid is down, then your home already is equipped with the feature to “island” your home from the grid. In this case, no new PRU is required, since you won’t need duplicative islanding equipment.
